The application for the remote consultation of electrocardiograms ECG Cosnsult wins the Cerner Prize #HCESmartApp of the II Health Hackathon
The Cerner prize awarded the most innovative application that, integrated into the workflow of the electronic medical record, facilitates collaborative work and support for clinical decision making, with a clear benefit for patients.
ECG Consult, Cerner Prize winner application #HCESmartApp
Cerner Spain awarded the #HCESmartApp Award, whose objective was the development of innovative solutions that could be incorporated in a coherent way in the workflow of the electronic medical record (HCE). For this, the winning application had to fulfill a series of technical and functional requirements, among which were: to facilitate the support of clinical decision making and coordination among healthcare professionals, to demonstrate the contribution of a benefit to the patient, and to make use of SMART-on-FHIR open standards for the integration of health applications.
The winning application, ECG Consult, allows any doctor to consult an electrocardiogram (ECG) that generates doubts and receive a response from a specialist in a very short time so that it allows him to adopt the most appropriate attitude with the patient. “The doctor who uses ECG Consult will have the possibility to consult his diagnostic impression and his plan with a specialist. It will be like having a cardiologist or an arrhythmologist in the next office. For the patient, it has the benefit of having an immediate and accurate assessment on evaluation and treatment from the first moment”, says Dr. Daniel Rodríguez Muñoz, a specialist in arrhythmias at the Ramón y Cajal University Hospital. The application also allows the sending of a photograph of an ECG, facilitating instant communication between the user and a specialist in arrhythmias. All this, within the normal flow of work and without leaving the electronic medical record system.
ECG Consult has been developed by a multidisciplinary team made up of cardiologists from the Ramón y Cajal University Hospital and the u-Care Digital Health company, which has contributed its SMART-on-FHIR technology platform for e-consultation and remote communication among medical professionals developed in collaboration with ADVICEFY. In addition, ECG Consult has the support of the Innovation Unit of the Ramón y Cajal Institute for Health Research.
SMART-on-FHIR, the future of health data exchange
A health application compatible with SMART-on-FHIR is a standalone application, capable of being integrated in a standard way with clinical information systems. When this integration is made with an electronic medical record system, the result is the continuity of all the relevant information, which is immediately available to the entire healthcare team.
